San Isidro, the great festival of Madrid!

This weekend Madrid dress Gala to celebrate its patron saint festivities. Up to 16 Monday the city will be setting for concerts, theatre, children’s activities, shows and parades. The Plaza Mayor, the meadow of San Isidro, the Vistillas gardens and the Retiro Park are just some of the scenarios on which act to artists of all styles.

More than 50 concerts of established musicians such as Santiago Auserón, Nacho Vegas, Esperanza Argüelles, El Langui, Cora Novoa the Banda Sinfónica de Madrid will take place during the weekend. But that is not all, there will be bands, dances, puppet shows, Dj’s that will offer fun for all ages.

Firework displays over the Retiro Park lake, dancing to the beat of swing music, Latin American sounds, tangoes and tap dancing in the Plaza del Museo Reina Sofía as well as classical music at nightfall in the Temple of Debod and Plaza de Oriente all form part of a clearly multi-disciplinary artistic programme. No wonder that from 14 to 16 May, Plaza del Conde de Barajas will be filled with poetry. Throughout the entire San Isidro festival the traditional pottery fair, the Feria de la Cacharrería, will be held in Plaza de las Comendadoras.

Documenta Madrid, the best documentaries films

International Documentary Film Festival, DocumentaMadrid,  convene again in the capital to the best of the genre in its thirteenth edition, to be held from April 27 to May 8 in Cineteca the only theater in the country dedicated to the programming “cinema of reality”.

DocumentaMadrid festival will show, in its Official Section, a selection of the best non-fiction film produced last year worldwide and not released in Spain, competing for clinching for the Best Documentary Award (short and feature films). As every year, the festival will maintain the section “Panorama of the Spanish documentary” focused in the films produced in our country during 2015. A production increasingly rich and varied both in its proposals as in the cinematographic style.

The documentary film is a reflection of social, cultural, economic, artistic, environmental or technological realities that exist in the world, which is why the festival organizers want to make this a space for reflection and encounter different cultures and societies the convulsive moment in which we live.

Holi Run returns to Madrid!

This Sunday April 10th, Holi Run, the most fun and least competitive race, returns to Madrid to dye color to all participants. The intention is to surpass the figures achieved last year when 55,000 runners participated between the two races in April and October.

The race consists of a route of 5 km suitable for all: families, groups of friends or even pets! The Holi Run can be performed running or walking, according to the preparation of each one. It is not a competitive race and the main goal is the fun of the participants.

The organizers of the event, which will rotate through several cities in Spain, say that this year have more colors and painting stations in previous years, therefore, more fun for the participants. At the end of the course attendees will enjoy a party with participation of DJ Ben Hassel.

The Night of Theatre

This April 1th Madrid dresses up to celebrate The Night of Theatre. This year the event reaches its ninth edition coinciding with the commemoration of the fourth centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare, as well as the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ramon Maria del Valle Inclan, three parents of world drama that will honorees.

The program includes dramatized readings, programming of dance, music and puppet shows for younger, actions that are mostly free. The start will take place at the Real Casa de Correos, where the opening speech opening will be held at 17: 30h., Written by Alfredo Sanzol and read by Carmen Conesa.

The Real Casa de Correos will also be the scene of the adventures of Don Quixote, at 18 h, a free show about 50 minutes aimed at all audiences from age 3, where actor-puppeteers, musicians, dolls, figures, recycled objects and toys make up the different adventures in which will be involved the ‘ingenious hidalgo’.

Other participants spaces will be the Headquarters Office of Culture and Tourism, Casa Lope Museo de Vega, the Pilar Miró Cultural Centre, the Real Coliseo Carlos III, the Convent of the Trinitarias Descalzas, the Teatro de la Abadía, and other theatres in the city .

Chagall: Divine and Human

The Fundación Canal presents the exhibition Chagall: divine and human. A unique opportunity to see the work of one of the most important painters and graphic artists of the twentieth century, considered the master color Modern Art.

This exhibition, which runs almost four decades of his artistic activity, includes a total of 100 works on paper from the funds of Marc Chagall Collection C. S. Paris Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Münster (Germany), reflecting the intense and surprising connection between the sacred and the profane in the chagaliana work. Both concepts together to become a single entity in the artistic universe of Chagall: the divine expands to human and human to the divine coming to live in the same space as a result of his artistic vision: a synthesis of personal experience, myth and religion.

The pieces selected for the exhibition include all the techniques used by Chagall for his graphic work. Etched recordings, woodcuts and lithographs illustrate the fundamental role of printmaking in creating Chagall. He is credited to them a place of honor in relevant production, either in terms of quantity and quality.

La Phármaco in De Otoño a Primavera Festival

La Phármaco, one of the most promising formations of contemporary dance in our country, with dancer and choreographer Luz Arcas forward, landing in March at the Sala Negra of the Teatros del Canal to present Kaspar Hauser. Orphan Europe, a physical show dialoguing with history to reflect our age dancing as training itself states, “the poetic and wild nature of humanity”.

On May 26, 1828 a young stranger who could barely stand appeared as from nowhere in a square in Nuremberg. The boy, who just carried an anonymous letter with some conflicting data on its origin, was welcomed immediately in the city and throughout the country, as a social, political and philosophical experiment. At six weeks he spoke with some fluency and could read and write. It was learned by himself who had lived in a dungeon and, so far being found, he had never seen any human being.

The leader of la Phármaco company explains his creation “in the dance of Kaspar Hauser, the engine movement is always tragic: imagine the peculiarity of their textures, born of an extreme hypersensitivity, a physical reaction, anatomical, against the real (Kaspar not bear the light, I could see in the dark, he perceived the magnetic force of metals, animals and people and hurt most aromas, sounds and tastes). ”

But Kaspar Hauser embodies the natural conflict with “the other”, is dancing the relentless violence of the world with the unspoiled nature of “the orphan of Europe”, as they called the media of his time. The premiere of Kaspar Hauser, the orphan of Europe, will take place in the Sala Negra of the Teatros del Canal in March, under the XXXIII Festival De Otoño a Primavera.

Ellas Crean Festival

Ellas Crean, the most important festival of art and female creation, celebrates its 12th anniversary with more than 100 proposals of cinema, music, literature, art and, most especially for the second consecutive year, theater and dance, with several premieres for the occasion. The theater program will have 5 premieres and dance will bring two new choreographies, one world premiere and one in Spain. The music of the Iranian singer Mahsa Vadat and Israeli singer Sivan Talmor also sound for the first time in Spain, as well as the Saharawi singer Aziza Brahim posing in Ellas Crean his new album, Hamada Abbar.
In literature they will be presented to the public the new novels Monika Zgustova and Gordana Kuiç and poetry will reveal the forgotten voices of the best Spanish poets of the twentieth century, while the film will bring a documentary premiere and the projection premiere of two Iranian films recent production, among many other proposals of these disciplines. ARCOmadrid, an unmissable date with the art.

Reach age 35, makes us ask ourselves if we are still young, or if we are already a little older, in the case of ARCOmadrid reaches this age in good shape but with much know-how. The fair celebrates this anniversary with an exceptional and one-of-a-kind edition. For the first time ever, some of the most prestigious galleries in the world will coincide at the Fair, making it a unique date on the international calendar.

In total, 221 galleries from 27 countries will participate: 167 form part of the General Programme; 18 of Solo Projects, and 18 of Opening. They will be joined by a new addition in the shape of some thirty great names from the international gallery scene that will make up the commemorative programme, Imagining Other Futures.

In addition, ARCOmadrid will also focus on the rising talents of contemporary art, with 98 proposals dedicated to one or two artists, consolidating the fair as a benchmark for the discovery and research of new artists. From February 24th to 28th in IFEMA.

Priscilla is not a woman, it’s a bus! Who can forget the adventures of three friends artists who travel the Australian desert aboard a rickety bus, which names the musical-van while representing her show Drag. This fascinating musical offers more than 40 artists on stage, 500 stunning costumes, 200 wigs and delusional real bus on stage.

The audience will enjoy greatest hits of disco, from Tina Turner to Madonna, we can say that this music is the soundtrack is the most danced in all of history. It is a continuous parade of songs and choreography that make the musical “feelgood” par excellence.
